Moving? Have Plants? What You Need To Do

If you have lots of plants, either house plants or outside plants, that you want to take with you to your new home, you are going to have to figure out how to move your plants. Most moving companies, due to insurance and safety regulations, are not allowed to move plants, so if you have plants that you want to bring with you, you are going to need to figure out how to transport them yourself.

Cover Up the Base of the Planter

You are going to want to protect the roots. You don't want the dirt from the bottom of the container to get all over the inside of your car.  You can wrap the base of the planter with plastic or newspaper to cover up the roots and dirt and ensure that the dirt stays in place while transporting the plant.

You can lay strips of newspaper or plastic across the top of the planter and tape it to the side of the planter. Or you can wrap it up like a present, wrapping the paper around the bottom of the planter, bringing it up to the top where the dirt is, and tying the paper together around the truck of the tree or plant.

When moving an outside plant, wrap the root ball with a canvas bag like you would see done at a nursery. This will keep the dirt from getting all over your vehicle.

If you have an outdoor plant that you want to move, you are going to need to dig down deep so that you can get all of the roots. Make sure that you dig deep and wide, then transfer the plant into a planter or use canvas to wrap up the root ball like you would see done with a plant at the nursery.

Secure the Plant

Next, you want to secure the plant so that it stays upright. You are going to want to put the planter inside of a box, and then fill around the base of the planter inside of the box so that the box stays upright.

You can put towels around the base of the planter in the box, or you can use newspaper, plastic bags, or anything else you have that will help keep the planter stable. Make sure that the planter does not move around at all once you secure it. You don't want the plant to tip or fall over while being transported

Transport the Plant

After that, you need to transport the plant. Make sure that you can place the boxes or boxes in your car so that the plant is upright and secure the boxes so that they don't move around. You may want to use bungee cords to keep the boxes in place.

Unpacking the Plant

When you get to your new home, take the planter out of the box and remove the plastic wrap or newspaper you put over the soil to keep everything in place.

When to Move the Plants

If you have access to your new home before your official moving day, move your plants before the big moving day. That way, the plants will be out of the way when the movers are packing up everything.

If you don't have access to your new home until moving day, load up and move your plants early in the morning so that you finish this task early in the day. That way, when the movers are done, you'll be done with moving as well.

If you have house plants and are using professional movers, make sure that you remember to budget time to move your houseplants on your own. For help with the rest of your move, get in touch with a business like Taurus Moving.

About Me

Streamlining A Relocation

Do you remember how stressful your last move was? I remember one particular move that caused me a lot of heartache. I was moving across the country, and I felt like there was no end to how many jobs there were to manage. I had to do so many different things, and it was really devastating to see how my checking account was dwindling away. Fortunately, a friend of mine had some great suggestions about how to make things better. She recommended working with a great moving company and letting them help with storage. Before I knew it, I was calling a new place home, without all of the hassle. Read more on this site to find out about moving.
