If you are in the process of moving, there are some things that you can do to help make the move a lot easier, as well as to protect your furniture. Here are some tips you should consider when you are preparing your items to be transported during your move.
Disassemble your tables
Dining tables, living room tables, and any other tables you have throughout your home can be difficult to deal with during a move. They can be hard to get through the doors because of their legs, especially if the legs and the tables are long. Taking the legs off of the tables will make them easier to fit through all of the doors. The tables will also fit more easily in the moving truck and won't take up nearly as much room since they can go flat against the wall of the truck with the legs set near them. Also, once your table is disassembled, you will be able to easily wrap it in blankets to protect it from getting damaged.
Empty everything out of your furniture drawers
Many people like to move their furniture, such as dressers and nightstands, to the moving truck and then move the full drawers for these pieces of furniture to the truck as well, putting them back into place for transport. They see this as a good way to cut down on the need for more boxes in the truck and create more free space in the moving truck.
However, the moving truck is driving with units that have full drawers, the units are at a much greater risk of breaking. The pieces of furniture are not meant to house contents in the drawers while also taking on the shifts and bumps they will endure while the truck is traveling. This is why you should empty the drawers and only put items back in them once all the pieces are put in place at the new place.
Disassemble your couches
Couch disassembly is something else that can make your move a whole lot easier. When you have your couch disassembled it will be easier to get through the corners throughout a house as well as through doorways. Couches often take on a lot of abuse making the trip from the house to the truck, and disassembling them prevents this abuse from occurring. The pieces of the couch can also be wrapped in protective blankets and the pieces of the couches can be situated in the truck in a way that takes up much less space than a fully assembled couch would. A moving and storage company may offer help with couch disassembly.
