From Researching Moving Companies to Making an Inventory: Tech for Your Move

How can technology make your move easier? Whether you're moving into a new rental, your first real estate purchase, or just sold yet another home, you need help getting everything you own from point A to point B. This is where moving companies and technology come in. Take a look at what you need to know about the top ways tech can make move-related tasks easier.

Use Your Smartphone to Find a Mover

According to the Pew Research Center, 85 percent of Americans have a smartphone. If you're one of the many adults who uses this type of handheld technology daily, you don't have to go far to find the best moving company in your area. Simply open your phone's Internet Internet browser and search for keywords such as "moving companies" or "local movers."

You can also use your smartphone to read reviews of local companies, view the services, and connect with the contractor (provided the company has an online contact form or email address). If you want to learn more about your potential future mover from real customers, look for detailed references on local community or neighborhood social media groups.

If you don't have a smartphone, or prefer not to use it to find a mover, you can still use the Internet. Instead of your phone, use a tablet, laptop, or desktop computer.

Create an Inventory with an App

A moving inventory allows you to itemize everything you will bring from your old home to the new one. While you could handwrite a list, an inventory app makes the process easier. These types of apps allow you to create categories, organize your move by room, take photos, and create lists. Choose an app that makes the most sense for your needs and works with your device (either android or iOS).

Organize Your Move with Design Software

Basic design software (or apps) allows you to easily create blueprints or maps of your old and new spaces. Select a program that you feel comfortable using and has the features that you need. This may include a general design or planning program—and not software or an app that is made specifically for a move.

Map out your old home and note where you will store each type of box, bin, or other container. This type of diagram can help you and the mover to organize everything you own. Along with this map, plan the layout of your new home with the same or a similar type of software program.

About Me

Streamlining A Relocation

Do you remember how stressful your last move was? I remember one particular move that caused me a lot of heartache. I was moving across the country, and I felt like there was no end to how many jobs there were to manage. I had to do so many different things, and it was really devastating to see how my checking account was dwindling away. Fortunately, a friend of mine had some great suggestions about how to make things better. She recommended working with a great moving company and letting them help with storage. Before I knew it, I was calling a new place home, without all of the hassle. Read more on this site to find out about moving.
